Gagne leads Flyers over Islanders

Simon Gagne scored a tiebreaking power-play goal with less than 9 minutes left to lead the Philadelphia Flyers to a 4-3 victory over the New York Islanders on Tuesday night.

Gagne scored on a one-timer from the top of the left circle at 11:08 of the third period to help the Flyers move into a tie with Pittsburgh for second place in the Atlantic Division.

Blake Comeau had pulled the Islanders into a 3-3 tie at 2:17 of the third period with his first goal since last March 29.

Arron Asham, Darroll Powe, and Jeff Carter also scored for Philadelphia, which is unbeaten in regulation in its last seven home games (5-0-2).

Andy Hilbert and Doug Weight also scored for the Islanders, who have lost four games in a row and six of their last seven.

Canadiens 4, Flames 1

At Montreal, Robert Lang had two goals and an assist and Matt D'Agostini extended his goal-scoring streak to four games for the Canadiens.

Montreal backup goalie Jaroslav Halak made 32 saves for his first win in seven weeks. The 23-year-old Slovak, who has allowed one goal in each of his three wins this season, went 0-2-1 in four starts since winning his first two outings.

Alex Kovalev had two assists _ both on Lang's goals in the first and second periods_ in his 1,100th regular season game. Andrei Markov scored Montreal's fourth goal in the third period as the Canadiens improved to 3-0-1 on their franchise-record seven-game homestand.

Dustin Boyd scored Calgary's lone goal in the second in his return to the lineup after missing five games because of a shoulder injury.

Canucks 3, Predators 1

At Nashville, Tennessee, defenseman Alexander Edler scored a power-play goal 24 seconds into the third period to help Vancouver win for the second time in three games.

Pavol Demitra also scored a goal, and Alex Burrows added an empty-netter with 44 seconds left for the Canucks, who have won five straight in this series and the first two this season.

Radek Bonk scored on a 5-on-3 for the Predators who returned home angry after a sloppy 6-3 loss in St. Louis the previous night.
